Understand this condition

CNS germ-cell tumours include germinoma and nongerminomatous groups. They are not interchangeable with all germ-cell tumours of the testis or ovary.

How it is assessed

MRI, appropriate blood or cerebrospinal-fluid markers, and selected tissue assessment distinguish subtype and extent.

Care pathways

Radiation and chemotherapy have roles according to subtype and extent. Children and adolescents need age-appropriate teams and long-term-effects monitoring.

Important distinctions & limits

Germinoma and nongerminomatous disease cannot be combined into one treatment promise. Hormonal and visual function also need assessment.

One diagnosis, several care specialties

Read the video transcript
  1. Understand the disease type first. An organ name is not enough. Pathology, stage, and general condition give context.
  2. Each specialty has a role. Medical, radiation, and surgical oncology may work together according to the case.
  3. An MDT brings perspectives together. A multidisciplinary team discusses findings and options. Team composition depends on the case.
  4. Bring clear questions. BKC supports coordination. Diagnosis and medical decisions remain with licensed clinicians.
