A concept diagram, not an anatomical image, procedure simulation, or personal treatment sequence.
01What the procedure involves
Hepatectomy removes a portion of liver. The volume and function of the remaining liver matter beyond tumour size alone.
02Assessment before surgery
Assessment considers vessels, lesions, liver reserve, cirrhosis, and disease outside the liver. Primary tumours and metastases have different contexts.
03Recovery & follow-up
Monitoring focuses on liver function, bleeding, bile leakage, infection, nutrition, and pathology. Findings determine further surveillance or treatment.
04Key choices & risks
Liver regeneration does not guarantee safety for everyone. Postoperative liver failure and major complications require discussion.

Robotic or laparoscopic: understand the distinction
Read the video transcript
Procedure: what is done? Whipple, colectomy, and mastectomy describe procedures on different organs.
Approach: how is it accessed? Open, laparoscopic, or robotic describes how a surgeon reaches the operating area.
A surgeon controls the robot. A robot is not an autonomous surgeon. Approach depends on the case and surgical team.
Ask about recovery. Small incisions do not mean no risk. Ask about complications, organ function, and follow-up.
