Understand this condition

Colon cancer starts in the large bowel before the rectum. Its pathway is not identical to rectal cancer care.

How it is assessed

Colonoscopy, biopsy, imaging, and overall health inform planning. Surgical staging also considers the removed tissue and lymph nodes.

Care pathways

Colon resection with nodal assessment can provide local treatment. Postoperative or advanced-disease medicines depend on clinical findings.

Important distinctions & limits

Blood in stool has many causes. Direct assessment is needed; one CEA result cannot confirm or exclude cancer.

One diagnosis, several care specialties

Read the video transcript
  1. Understand the disease type first. An organ name is not enough. Pathology, stage, and general condition give context.
  2. Each specialty has a role. Medical, radiation, and surgical oncology may work together according to the case.
  3. An MDT brings perspectives together. A multidisciplinary team discusses findings and options. Team composition depends on the case.
  4. Bring clear questions. BKC supports coordination. Diagnosis and medical decisions remain with licensed clinicians.
