Understand this condition

Primary vaginal cancer starts in vaginal tissue. Spread from cervical or other cancers to the vagina is a different situation.

How it is assessed

Gynaecological examination, biopsy, previous-cancer history, and imaging help determine origin and extent.

Care pathways

Radiation, including selected internal approaches, surgery, and medicines depend on location and stage. Sexual and urinary function matter.

Important distinctions & limits

Vaginal abnormalities are not all malignant. Establish the primary site rather than planning only from where symptoms occur.

One diagnosis, several care specialties

Read the video transcript
  1. Understand the disease type first. An organ name is not enough. Pathology, stage, and general condition give context.
  2. Each specialty has a role. Medical, radiation, and surgical oncology may work together according to the case.
  3. An MDT brings perspectives together. A multidisciplinary team discusses findings and options. Team composition depends on the case.
  4. Bring clear questions. BKC supports coordination. Diagnosis and medical decisions remain with licensed clinicians.
