Understand this condition

The vulva is the external female genital area. Vulvar cancer differs from vaginal and cervical cancer despite their proximity.

How it is assessed

Examination and biopsy of skin or mucosal lesions support diagnosis. Size, depth, and groin nodes are assessed as indicated.

Care pathways

Surgery and nodal assessment may contribute, with radiation or medicines in selected circumstances. Wound healing and function need planning.

Important distinctions & limits

Itching and skin-colour changes have many causes. Persistent lesions need examination rather than self-treatment based on appearance.

One diagnosis, several care specialties

Read the video transcript
  1. Understand the disease type first. An organ name is not enough. Pathology, stage, and general condition give context.
  2. Each specialty has a role. Medical, radiation, and surgical oncology may work together according to the case.
  3. An MDT brings perspectives together. A multidisciplinary team discusses findings and options. Team composition depends on the case.
  4. Bring clear questions. BKC supports coordination. Diagnosis and medical decisions remain with licensed clinicians.
